How to Create Tuna Can Bird Feeders with Kids

Children delight in bird watching. In this Eco-friendly tutorial by Cloud 9 Workshop learn how to transform a tuna can into a fun and colorful feeder for our feathered friends.
Materials Needed:
- Tuna can (make sure top edge is not sharp)
- Hammer
- Large nail
- Acrylic paint
- Brushes
- Water cups
- Plastic container lids for paint palette
- Paint shirt
- String or thin rope
- Bird seed
- Optional: Beads
- Optional: Craft sticks or popsicle sticks
- Optional: Hot glue
- Optional: Acrylic sealer
Process:
ADULTS
- Pound 3-4 holes near rim of can with hammer (Tip: pound holes from inside of can)
KIDS
- Paint can using lines, circles, dots and patterns then let dry (Tip: 2 coats are best)
- Cut 3-4 long strings, approx. 20” each
- Tie ends together & add beads if desired
- Thread strings through can holes and knot
- Optional: Hot glue craft sticks to bottom of can
- Optional: Spray or brush on acrylic sealer
